A renowned plantsman, Dr.Michael Dirr has introduced dozens of tree and shrub cultivars during his time at the University of Georgia Plant Introduction Program and through his company, Plant Introductions, Inc. He has written seven books including the Manual of Woody Landscape Plants, now in its sixth edition, which is the most widely used book in the United States about landscape trees and shrubs. His September 16th, 2016 evening keynote presentation, “In Praise of Noble Trees,” at the 2016 Master Gardener Volunteer state conference, hosted by Summit County Master Gardeners, promises to enthrall his audience as he expresses the many valuable traits of what he considers the Noble Trees and then reveals some recent introductions of improved landscape trees for urban and suburban sites. Dr. Dirr is passionate about educating and inspiring enthusiasts and says he keeps hammering away to persuade contractors and landscapers to plant the best trees for the intended sites.
